Ruben is part of a team performing sourcing, diligence, transactions, and management of Ligand’s investments in late-stage therapeutic programs and platform technologies. Prior to his role at Ligand, Ruben was the Academic Innovations and Partnerships Lead at General Inception, a Venture Studio based in Palo Alto, with operations in the USA and Europe. Ruben’s corporate experience includes roles in R&D at BD Biosciences Pharmingen, clinical trial design and execution at Biosite (now Abbott), and team leader for diagnostics and Luminex at Chemicon (now Millipore SIGMA). Later Rubén was a founding member of the Scientific Collaborations and Business Development group, where he developed worldwide collaborations, sponsored research, and licensing with academic scientists. Ruben is also a co-founder and past President of the San Diego Innovation Council.
With over 30 years of experience in entrepreneurship, advisory and investment services, Jack is recognized as one of the foremost global healthcare industry experts specialized in the complex and innovative application of technology to improve impact and performance. He is the founder of Healthcare Equity Angels - an investment syndicate of senior industry executives, a healthcare lifesciences venture partner of Smartgate VC / Herohouse AI incubator, an active investor and a mentor to several accelerator programs and early-stage companies. Prior to this, Jack was a Partner at top advisory firms – Mckinsey, Booz/PwC & Deloitte – where he has reached senior practice leadership roles and build a global reputation counseling some of the world’s most prestigious healthcare, private equity and technology companies on strategic use of emerging technologies, deriving value from digital transformation and delivering advanced technology capabilities.
