Preparing the next generation of life science innovators through hands-on training, unique research experiences, and in-depth internships.
ULP’s Life Science Pathway to College and Career educational programs are committed to inspiring and training the next generation of scientists, engineers, and life science innovators to reach their full potential and make meaningful contributions to our world.
Through our hands-on laboratory courses, high school students are provided with real-world research experience and essential lab skills that equip them to excel in future STEM pursuits.
This hybrid course consists of a weekly asynchronous module that prepares students for the weekly in-person laboratory activities. Students will acquire and demonstrate knowledge and skills in PCR, gel electrophoresis, protein purification, quantification, experimental design, and execution. The course is designed to integrate theoretical understanding with practical application which prepares students for the dynamic challenges of biomanufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and biotechnology laboratories.
January 8, 2025 - February 28, 2025
2 Cohorts | 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Explore the emerging technologies and applications of MedTech devices using computer-aided design, 3-D printing, and material testing. Students will design, build, and test a MedTech device.
Learn how biologists use viruses in the development of therapeutics and vaccines. Students will perform hands-on molecular biology techniques to analyze the effects of viral infections on protein synthesis.
Students apply laboratory techniques commonly used in biological research. Students will perform aseptic and molecular biology techniques to culture, label, and image mammalian cells.
This hybrid course provides hands-on training industry-standard knowledge and skills in bacterial cloning, genomic and plasmid DNA isolation, PCR, restriction digest, and gel electrophoresis as well as experimental design and execution. Students will learn classic techniques as well as cutting-edge technologies to edit cellular genome.

Students will learn cell culture and molecular biology techniques that are performed in research and development immuno-oncology laboratories. This experience will offer the next step in training by providing meaningful skill development in a hands-on research project.
Our mission is to develop the next generation of life science talent through education and workforce development programming, focused on engaging high school and college students with a deep interest in STEM careers. ULP’s STEM scholarships ensure students are ready for a biotech career through mentorship opportunities and hands-on laboratory experiences that refine research skills.
This 8-week internship equips students with vital workplace skills in a biotech setting. Students will learn laboratory operations, effective communication, and engage with multidisciplinary scientists. Students will have the opportunity to earn a UCI digital credential in the Fundamentals of Cell Culture.
One of the biggest challenges for students is to gain meaningful laboratory research and/or internship opportunities. These opportunities better prepare students for college-level STEM courses and the demands and rigors of lab science courses.
