Need Help Applying for SBIR or STTR Funding?

Apply for the Applicant Assitance Program, a free, 10-week mentoring program for new SBIR/STTR applicants.

Preparing your first Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) or Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) application can be daunting and time-consuming. Wouldn’t it be helpful to have an experienced mentor to walk you through the process and help you refine and perfect your submission?

The National Institute on Aging (NIA) Office of Small Business Research is participating in the Applicant Assistance Program (AAP). The free, 10-week program is designed to assist small businesses in preparing an SBIR or STTR application in time for the April 5, 2022 deadline. AAP provides participants with services such as application needs assessment, mentoring, application preparation support, and application review. NIH will start accepting applications for the next group of AAP participants beginning November 15, 2021. Use the AAP Application Portal to apply by Friday, December 10, 2021.

Who is Eligible?

AAP seeks companies that have not previously participated in the SBIR or STTR programs. Eligible applicants;

  • Have not received a previous NIH SBIR or STTR award in the past 10 years.
  • Do not have a current NIH SBIR or STTR application under review.
  • Intend to submit an application for Phase I support only by the April 5, 2022, deadline.
  • Are otherwise eligible for the SBIR or STTR programs and have research aligned with NIA’s mission

Women and minority-owned small businesses, as well as businesses from states underrepresented in the SBIR/STTR programs, are strongly encouraged to apply.
