Linda McCarthy has extensive work and education experience in the biotechnology sector. After receiving a BS in Bioengineering from UCSD, she worked at two biotech startup companies, Advanced Tissue Sciences and Cosmederm. Having received her Master’s in Manufacturing Engineering from Texas A&M University, Linda worked as a manufacturing engineer for several companies including Beckman Coulter Sagian Operations. She subsequently left the private sector to manage an academic research center, Edwards Lifescience Center for Advanced Cardiovascular Research Technologies at UCI.
Over her 9 year career as the laboratory manager, Linda assisted in creating a core biological center comprised of cell culture, mechanical testing, microbiology, and microscopy facilities. Her core policies and procedures efficiently supported 5 research groups and their affiliated collaborators. She has trained over 150 users in biological applications and participated in biocompatibility, angiogenesis, microfluidics, and stem cell based research projects resulting in several publications, posters, and talks.
